About Rhett Regina Owings
Rhett Regina Owings graduated from San Francisco State (now University) with a major in Fine Arts and a minor in History. After teaching Art and World History for over 30 years, she finally retired to devote her time to her first love, Art. Since retirement, Rhett has studied painting with many fine artists including Dean Packer, Susan Sarback, Dan Peterson, Stan Goldstein, Charles Waldman, Ray Roberts, Gil Dellinger, Reif Erickson, Peggi Kroll-Roberts, Brian Blood, and Tim Horn.
She most often works in oils, acrylics, soft pastels, and watermedia painting landscapes, still lifes, animal and wildlife paintings. Her passion for color leads her to experiment in unusual ways making radiant color an important element in her art. She looks for strong, contrasting and complementary colors in the out-of-doors where she often enjoys painting on location en plein aire. Rhett feels it is important to capture the beauty of the landscape and is upset by all the commercial growth, especially in the Central Valley of California. She also enjoys spending time and painting along the Central Coast near Monterey, in the foothills near Sonora, the Sierras near Pinecrest and in Yosemite.
Rhett has shown her work in a number of California art galleries in Turlock, Modesto, Carmel Valley, Pacific Grove, Saratoga, and Sonora. She has had several one and two person art shows as well as being accepted into many group shows and competitions. She is a member of the Monterey Bay Area Plein Air Painters Association, Central Coast Art Association, and the Valley Sun Catchers. She has won numerous awards in local art shows and her work is found in art collections in the USA, Europe and Australia.
Her work is featured at the Mistlin Art Gallery in Modesto, California, the Aloft Art Gallery in Sonora, California and is also available on her website. She is happy to consider commission pieces. Please email her and visit her website for more information. Rhett's work is also available as note cards and can be found in gift shops in Turlock, and Pacific Grove, California. See her website for a complete list.
Rhett also enjoys origami, Japanese design and history. She is working on her 2nd set of 1,000 paper cranes and sells them at the Sandhill Crane Festival in Lodi, CA each November. Her paper cranes are folded with washi (Japanese silkscreened paper) and are embellished with ribbons, beads and other beautiful items. She also makes crane earrings and pins. You can see examples on her website.
